Friend — Last week, President Biden announced that he’s pardoning those convicted in federal courts for simple possession of marijuana. As he put it, “too many lives have been upended” because of “our failed approach to marijuana.”
President Biden is right: people should not have a federal criminal record for something that is legal in an increasing number of states. Sign on to my petition if you agree that we should decriminalize marijuana in North Carolina: [[link removed]]

At this point, decriminalizing marijuana is a bipartisan issue. So far, 39 states have legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes and 19 states have legalized marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes.
Folks, let’s act – and let’s get it right. That means decriminalizing adult use, expunging past convictions for simple possession, and including strong protections for kids, no advertising, state controlled sales, and putting North Carolina farmers first.
In this way, we can begin to address injustices and boost our economy. I look forward to working with the legislature in the coming months to help move North Carolina forward as well.
