FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

*Annual* *Flood Awareness Week Kicks Off; Public Preparedness Events Scheduled*

?

Flood Awareness Week has officially kicked off today in Skagit County and will run through October 14. Flooding has been of serious concern to the community of Skagit County since the late 1800s, with the threat of extreme flooding generally occurring in the Skagit Valley between the months of October and March.

Due to this concern, measures have been taken throughout the years to reduce the risk of flood damage in the valley. As a part of these preventative measures, Skagit County Public Works and the Department of Emergency Management (DEM) hold Flood Awareness Week each October to assess and implement ongoing flood preparedness. This week, DEM is offering multiple opportunities for community members to get involved and learn about flood preparedness for themselves and their families.
