Hi John,
I’m Evie, Marie’s daughter. I don’t know if you know this about our family’s story, but 5 years ago I transitioned. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and my mom was by my side every step of the way. I’m lucky to have her as an advocate.
My mom has spent a lot of time on the phone and in-person coordinating between our primary doctor, specialists, specialty pharmacies and then, of course, making sure all of those groups are communicating. Things that don’t seem like they should require a lot of steps, always do. And while that’s frustrating, I can’t help but realize how lucky my family is. We have health insurance, and I have parents who can take me to appointments, advocate for my care, and spend endless hours on the phone with insurance companies. Other kids aren’t in that same position.
It’s clear that our healthcare system isn’t working for everyone, or really anyone at the end of the day.
But if there’s anything I know about my mom, it’s that she doesn’t shy away from the complicated stuff, and she doesn’t let obstacles stand in her way... ever.
I know she will take the same approach in advocating for this district that she has in advocating for my healthcare - always going the extra mile because that is both what is right and what this district deserves.
IL-03 would be lucky to have an advocate like my mom represent them in Congress - take it from someone she’s been advocating for her whole life.
Thank you for helping my mom, Evie
