We must celebrate and honor Native communities
|
Team,
Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time for us to remember and honor the past, present, and future of our Native communities and people.
In our region, these influences and contributions are fundamental to the very fabric of our state. More than 12,000 years ago, Indigenous people inhabited the land that would become Arizona, and to this day, there are 22 federally recognized tribes, and many more Native communities throughout our state.
But we also want to recognize that politically, there’s a lot of progress still to be made. We’ve made strides in recent years, but there is still much work to be done.
So while we celebrate the rich tradition, beautiful culture, and continuous contributions of Arizona’s Indigenous communities today, let’s also commit to continuing to treat these communities with dignity and respect every other day of the year.
Thank you to our Native communities for all they do for Arizona.
Sincerely,
AZ Dems
