Now is the time –
We need to get LOUD!
On Wednesday evening, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection hosted a virtual public hearing on several of the permits that will be needed to build a new fracked gas pipeline called the Regional Energy Access Expansion (REAE) that would start in the Poconos and continue into New Jersey.
Unfortunately for the health of our communities and streams that we love, nearly all of the comments at the hearing were in FAVOR of this pipeline, mostly for reasons that are irrelevant to this pipeline.
It won't lower our gas prices. It won't heat our homes. It just will have devastating consequences for our environment while the company makes a profit.
We still have the opportunity to raise our concerns and make our voices heard! The DEP has opened a public comment period that goes until Wednesday, October 12 at 4:00 pm. PLEASE, take a minute to share your concerns about the environmental impact this pipeline would have.
Now is the time to reduce the impact of climate pollution, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, and protect our creeks, streams, and forests in the Poconos. If it gets approved, there will be miles of new pipeline – which means greater burdens on communities already impacted by industrial pollution, more carbon emissions, and more destruction to our undeveloped spaces.
We cannot allow this to go through. We’re at a turning point where communities have an opportunity to invest in good-paying, union jobs in clean energy manufacturing and to protect our thriving recreation economy which benefits rural communities. This project would take us backward and make the impending climate crisis worse.
Take a minute to send a comment to tell DEP to deny Transcontinental Gas PipeLine Company permits for the REAE pipeline!
Let us know if you have questions or want to learn more.
Thanks for all that you do.
