Jack, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) has identified over 700 Republican state legislators and candidates “who pose an existential threat to our democracy”—in other words: they are election deniers. Of that 700, 21 insurrectionist candidates were at the Capitol on January 6.

“The evidence is clear—MAGA candidates and election deniers are working to seize power in state legislatures all across the country,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. These candidates no longer represent the fringe of the Republican Party, but instead represent the GOP’s future. In key swing states like Arizona and Michigan, MAGA militants are moving the insurrection from our nation’s capital to state capitals. ”

Daily Kos has endorsed 19 Democratic candidates running for the state legislature in two of the most critical states to provide a backstop against Trump—or his MAGA clone—in 2024. The DLCC has called Michigan "ground zero" with 18 MAGA election-denying candidates running. Meanwhile, Pennsylvania has become the "breeding ground" for some of the most anti-democratic Republicans in the country. These Pennsylvania Republicans worked to overturn the 2020 election results, echoing Trump's Big lie and election fraud conspiracy theories all while laying the groundwork to undermine voter confidence.

We have the opportunity to flip both Pennsylvania and Michigan legislature control, but more importantly, we can make the MAGA election deniers irrelevant and keep them from rigging future elections.

After the latest census, decades of Republican gerrymandering have come to an end in both Pennsylvania and Michigan. New fair and truly representative districts give Democrats the best shot in ages to gain control of the state legislatures. This would deprive Republicans of their most powerful tool for rigging future elections.
