When we flipped Virginia’s General Assembly blue for the first time in decades, we won some historic victories for women.

Last month we elected more women to the General Assembly than ever before -- many of whom flipped Republican seats. And for the first time in Virginia’s 400-year legislative history, a woman will serve as Speaker of the House of Delegates.

But there’s still a long road ahead in the fight for equality, and we have another opportunity to win big for women:

After a fifty-year battle, Virginia could become the final state needed to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and enshrine equal rights for women in the Constitution.

The Equal Rights Amendment needs support from just one more state to become a Constitutional amendment. Ratifying it would help protect women from discrimination and gender-based violence.

Earlier this year, the Republican-controlled House of Delegates blocked state Democrats from ratifying the amendment by a single vote. But our new women-led Democratic House has signaled that passing the ERA could be one of their top priorities next year:
