Populism is a reaction to a real problem, in this case elites that are corrupt, ineffective and self-serving. But elites are not nearly as bad as populists make them out to be. Indeed, often they are honest and effective. Furthermore, the solutions to the problems posed by those elites who are not doing their jobs come from the very liberal institutions populists criticize.
