Hi JOHN,

Building a unity campaign means bringing together Republicans, Democrats, and independent voters who are ready to make a real change here in the First District.

You know I love to chat with everyone and am working hard to build trust and restore civility in politics again, so I want to tell you two quick stories about a couple of stand-out conversations I’ve had on the trail in the past couple of weeks.

But first, can I ask you to make a grassroots contribution to our campaign, now that we have less than a month until Election Day? Any amount will help us expand our efforts and win!

Last week, I joined a Zoom call with a group of voters from Nanticoke and met Ralph. He was wearing a Trump 2024 hat and, while we didn’t agree on everything, I learned that he was a veteran who served our country and was in need of support from the VA. I believe we owe a deep debt of gratitude to those who served our country in uniform. I wasted no time in connecting him with a caseworker at the Department of Veterans Affairs so we could get him the help he needs and deserves. Ralph told me how touched he was that I care — and that he’s never received this type of support from Andy Harris. Then he asked for a Mizeur yard sign that he could post on his lawn near his Trump flag. We both laughed at how unexpected that was.

A couple of weeks ago, at the Tawes crab feast in Somerset County, I met Dave, a Republican, and his friend Sandy, a Democrat. They don’t always see eye to eye, but they put aside their differences for the sake of their friendship — they’re fishing buddies!

Sandy was hoping I’d meet Dave and talk with him about my priorities, and Dave emphasized how sick he is of partisan bickering. He is ready to support someone who puts aside politics to solve problems. I shared with them a little bit about my own friendship with a Republican colleague from my time in Annapolis. Though we didn’t always agree, we worked together on bipartisan solutions to challenges that people didn’t expect us to collaborate on.

At the end of our dialogue, Dave grabbed my hand, shook it, looked deep in my eyes, and said, “I trust you. You have my vote. I promise and you can count on it.” Then we snapped a photo with him holding our “Another Republican for Mizeur” sign.

Having Dave and Ralph’s support makes my heart leap not because this is how we win elections, but because it’s how we change a culture. We don’t need to be so divided. We are ready to heal. Maryland’s First District is going to show the nation the way forward.

That’s the kind of unity campaign we’re running, and I’m so proud of the movement we’ve built. If you’re with me, will you chip in $10 or any amount as we head into the final stretch?
