John – There’s been a disturbing trend of attacks against the LGBTQ+ community here in Idaho, including pride flags being burned outside people’s homes and smashed windows at a community center that serves LGBTQ folks.

A compilation of two photos. On the left, the remnants of a pride flag that was set on fire hangs outside of a home in Boise. On the right, a community center that serves LGBT people is shown with the front window smashed.

This is unfortunately not the first time Brett Perry and John Michael Schert, the couple whose flag was burned, have had their home attacked. Another flag of theirs was stolen and desecrated earlier this year.

And although the couple has reported the incidents and Boise police are investigating, it is not being investigated as a hate crime – because Idaho is one of 18 states that has NO legal protection against hate crimes for LGBTQ+ people.

This is a clear attempt by a radical, far-right minority to impose their bigotry on all of us – but it will not work. Just as their efforts to take down Boise Pride failed, these attacks have only strengthened the support from our allies.

My opponent, who has been our Senator for nearly a quarter of a century, aligns himself with the same far right forces spreading hate, division, and fear. It’s up to us to send a different message – one of love, equality, inclusion, and opportunity.

That’s what I’m fighting for here in Idaho, and what I will fight for as your next Senator.

A photo of a campaign pin in the rainbow pride flag design that reads: “It’s about time. David. Roth for Idaho dot org.” The pin is held in someone’s hand up against a ferris wheel spinning at night.

David Roth is a single, gay dad running to flip a U.S. Senate seat in Idaho. His opponent is an extremist “pro-life” Republican who’s been in politics for 37 years. David stepped up to serve the state that has been his home most of his life, where he is now raising his two young sons, because every state is worth fighting for. There has never been an openly gay man elected to the U.S. Senate. Help us make history this year. Pitch in now to flip this seat and send David to D.C.
