John,
Approval for unions is at an all-time high, with over 200 Starbucks stores having voted to unionize since December 2021 and the worker-led Amazon Labor Union’s historic victory at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island, NY.1,2
While more workers are banding together, they still face significant barriers in their efforts to unionize due to workplace conditions that have barely changed in the past two decades, while the level of opposition workers face has intensified. Most corporations still hire union-busting firms to deploy aggressive anti-union campaigns to hinder collective bargaining.
Corporate intimidation has led to lower wages, increased inequality, unfair workplaces, and less respect on the job. Rates of retaliation, coercion, threats, and intimidation remain extremely high. Worker surveillance has doubled in the past two decades, including monitoring through phones, computer key cards, social media, and more. Nearly 50% of employers interrogated workers about union activity as well as threatened workers with plant closings, outsourcing, or contracting out their work.
Unions helped create the middle class and promote economic equality. During this time of economic precarity, it’s important that we make it easier for workers to organize for better wages and working conditions in the face of unprecedented corporate greed. Click here to tell your senators to pass the PRO Act now!
The historic, pro-union Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act would restore fairness to the economy by strengthening federal laws that protect the right for workers to organize and collectively bargain for higher wages and better benefits. And it has a lot of support.
71% of Americans approve of labor unions—the highest it’s been since 1965—and 40% of union members say their membership is “extremely important.”
All workers deserve dignity, respect, and to work in safe conditions. The workers who are the backbone of our economy shouldn’t be forced to struggle to support their families while corporate executives rake in huge profits.
We must rein in massive corporations like Amazon, Starbucks, and others while empowering workers to organize and advocate for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.
SIGN THE PETITION TO YOUR SENATORS: Pass the PRO Act!
