New York Republican Delegation Joins Andrew In Defending Columbus Day as a Celebration of Italian American Heritage
Tomorrow is Columbus Day, a day to celebrate Italian Explorer Christopher Columbus' discovery of the New World and his impact on the generations of Italian Americans that followed. Now, as Democrats in Albany move to abolish this celebration of Italian American heritage, every Republican Member of the New York Congressional Delegation signed on to co-sponsor Andrew’s House Resolution is support of recognizing the second Monday in October as "Columbus Day" and honoring the contributions of the Italian American community in our society so as to stand in solidarity with Italian American New Yorkers. "Attempts to abolish Columbus Day are attempts to rewrite history and erase a core piece of Italian American heritage," Andrew said in a statement. "Columbus Day is a day of great pride for our community and one that celebrates, not just the accomplishments of one Italian explorer who changed the course of history, but also the countless contributions of generations of Italian Americans that followed. I am committed to making sure this celebration of Italian Americans is preserved for future generations and I thank my colleagues for joining with me in this effort."

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) — the largest federal nutrition assistance program, which provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families via an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card — has been subject to several scams. Indeed, just like any other debit or credit cards, these cards are not immune to fraudsters. Now, authorities are warning Americans to be cautious and on the lookout for several of these scams...Congressman Andrew Garbarino — ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Innovation — said cybercriminals have grown increasingly sophisticated in their methods for launching incursions. Garbarino said, “Absolute vigilance is necessary to reduce system vulnerabilities, which is why I would encourage everyone to visit CISA.gov [cybersecurity and infrastructure security agency] to view free resources and guidance available for individuals, businesses, local governments and more on how to protect against these kinds of attacks.”
