I'll be honest with you: Defeating Marco Rubio is going to be tough – but I'm no stranger to challenge. Growing up poor, Black and female in the South meant that nothing was handed to me. I had to work hard every single day to make a name for myself, driven by my mother's words to "never tire of doing good."

Decades later, my mother's words continue to be a driving force for me. They got me through college (the first in my family to do so), through my 27 years on the police force, through my first term as a U.S. Congresswoman, and now, through this uphill battle to the Senate.

Friend, it's hard to believe that in just one month this race will be over – but until the moment polls close, I will not stop fighting. Over the past few months, we've made up significant ground in the polls to give Rubio the toughest fight of his political career.
