Congress needs to make it easier, not harder, for Americans to access their earned Social Security benefits.

Tell Congress:

"With 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day, the Social Security Administration has a bigger workload than ever. Budget cuts have led to office closures, long wait times, and a year long backlog for disability hearings. Congress needs to increase, not cut, the agency’s funding"

John,

Recently, Congress passed a big end of year spending deal. That deal included a lump of coal for seniors and people with disabilities in the form of a miniscule budget increase for the Social Security Administration (SSA). Since the increase wasn’t even large enough to keep up with inflation, it is effectively a budget cut.

With 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day, Congress needs to increase SSA’s budget to reflect the larger workload.

Instead, Republican controlled Congresses have been slashing SSA’s budget for the past decade―with serious consequences for Social Security beneficiaries.

SSA field offices around the country have closed their doors, lines are out the door at offices that remain open, and hold times on SSA’s 1-800 number keep getting longer. People with disabilities face a years long backlog for eligibility hearings.

Join us in calling on Congress to fully fund the Social Security Administration, so that workers can easily access the benefits we’ve earned with every paycheck.

Cuts to the SSA budget are particularly senseless because it’s not even funded from the general budget, but rather directly from the American people’s Social Security contributions. Social Security has always been run very efficiently, spending less than a penny on the dollar on administration―far less than private sector counterparts.

Simply allowing SSA to spend a tenth of a percent more would make an enormous difference. But instead, Republicans want to wreck Social Security’s customer service in order to undermine the program’s popularity―so they can achieve their long-time goal of cutting our earned benefits.

Sign now: Tell Congress to fully fund the Social Security Administration so Social Security beneficiaries can get the high quality customer service they’ve paid for.
