*Gov. Whitmer Lowers Flags for?National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service*?????

*LANSING, Mich. --?*Governor?Gretchen Whitmer, in accordance with a proclamation issued by President Biden, has ordered U.S. and Michigan flags within the?State Capitol Complex and upon all public buildings and grounds across the State of Michigan?lowered?to half-staff?on Sunday, October 9?in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service?and?to pay respects to?the?brave firefighters and first responders who risk their lives to protect Americans.??

?Our state joins families and loved ones across the nation on this solemn day to honor the fallen firefighters and first responders who will forever be remembered for their bravery and dedication," said?*Governor Whitmer*. ?As their colleagues carry forward this mission and legacy, we have the responsibility to do everything in our power to make sure they are respected, protected, and supported in this selfless profession. We salute those who gave everything and embrace the families and communities who are mourning on this day."???

The State of Michigan recognizes the duty, honor, and selfless service of these fallen?firefighters by lowering flags to half-staff. Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations also are encouraged to display the flag at half-staff.?????

?

To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.?????

Flags should return to full-staff on Monday, October 10.???
