2020 is right around the corner, and right now, our campaign finance laws are failing to reduce political corruption and unlimited secret spending in our elections.
Watch the video below to hear more about our plan:
Before I became CLC’s Director of Campaign Finance Strategy, I worked at the Federal Election Commission for almost a decade. While at the FEC, I saw how institutional barriers stopped the agency from fulfilling its mission--overseeing the integrity of American political campaigns.
This dysfunction, which still exists, contributes to the growing problem of secret spending to influence our elections.
My time at the FEC showed me how important it is to have a campaign finance system that really works. It inspired me to get involved with an organization that makes a real impact. At CLC, we work to make our campaign finance system more transparent. We are pursuing reforms at all levels of government.
Existing campaign finance laws make it almost impossible for voters to make informed decisions at the polls. We can’t know if the people we vote for truly represent us. This is alarming, especially as the 2020 elections approach.
Fortunately, CLC has a plan.
We’re pressing for federal legislation and new FEC rules to better regulate digital ads. We’re working at the state level to craft new digital ad transparency rules and other campaign finance reforms to ensure our electoral process is fair and equitable.
Campaign Legal Center, a nonpartisan organization based in Washington, D.C., is home to the nation's premier election law experts. We are the lawyers for our democracy, fighting for your fundamental right to participate in the political process.
