LCA/ALW Stands Strong at the S. Korea National Assembly
Dear John,
Today, 10/7/2022, in the S. Korean National Assembly, the annual audit for the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) was held. Jiyen Lee, from LCA’s S. Korean sister organization, Animal Liberation Wave (ALW), testified in front of MP Han Jeoung-ae at the audit held by the Health and Welfare Committee. Lee spoke to the country's illegal and nightmarish dog meat trade.

Lee's testimony aims at the continuing non-action of the MFDS to enforce the Food Sanitation Act against the operators and workers of illegal dog meat slaughterhouses. LCA/ALW had previously released two undercover investigations that documented clear violations of the Act. The MFDS has the power to stop the illegal distribution of dogs for consumption by applying the Food Sanitation Act.
The MFDS has never cracked down on illegal dog meat vendors, although they recognize that processing, distributing, and cooking dogs for food is a violation of the Food Sanitation Act. MP Han Jeoung-ae, as seen in the video, echoes Lee's statements and strongly criticizes the MFDS for its non-action and ordered the ministry to come up with a plan as soon as possible.

For the animals,
