Metro highlights of Executive Constantine?s proposed 2023-24 budget
Image of Route 132 bus driving downtown while pedestrians walk all around

On September 27, King County Executive Dow Constantine transmitted his?proposed 2023-24 budget [ [link removed] ]?to the King County Council. Transit cornerstones include fleet electrification, organizational health, ridership recovery and security.

The Executive?s priorities in the proposed 2023-24 Metro budget balance short-term progress with longer-term positioning to advance healthy communities, a sustainable environment and a thriving economy, including:

* *Fleet electrification
*"Fight climate change, lower our region?s carbon footprint, and support healthy air and water"
* "*Organizational health
*"Be an employer of choice and enable employee growth to facilitate world-class transit service""
* ""*Ridership recovery
*"Deliver reliable service riders can count on"""
* """*Safety and security
*"Provide a safe and secure environment for riders and employees""""

The largest transit agency in the Puget Sound region, Metro currently delivers more than 220,000 average weekday trips across Access paratransit, bus, on-demand services, rideshare, Seattle Streetcar, vanpool, water taxi and more. The agency was named the?nation?s most equitable agency in combatting climate change [ [link removed] ]?by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) earlier this year.

Let your voice be heard with the Rainier Ave S survey!

In partnership with the?Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) [ [link removed] ], bus lanes have been installed northbound on Rainier Ave. S. between S. Alaska St. and S. Walden St., and southbound between S. Oregon St. and S. Edmunds St. in Rainier Valley.

We?re now evaluating two alternatives to extend the bus lanes. This extension would be northbound on Rainier Ave. S. ?between S. Walden St. and S. Grand St.

*Please?take our su [ [link removed] ]r [ [link removed] ]vey [ [link removed] ]?by November 13*. You can share your input on the two proposed alternatives, how you travel on Rainier Ave. S, and how we can further improve your experience taking transit.

Congrats to Ben Malmstadt, Metro?s 2022 Facilities Employee of the Year!
EOY award is presented to facilities lead Ben Malmstadt, right, at Atlantic Base operations in Seattle, WA. on Oct. 4, by Curtis Dickey,

Ben Malmstadt was honored today at a ceremony at Metro?s Atlantic base attended by his family and teammates as well as King County Executive Dow Constantine and Metro Deputy General Manager Michelle Allison. Ben Malmstadt?s devotion to ensuring clean, safe spaces for our riders and our communities has earned him top honors as Metro?s Facilities Employee of the Year for 2022.

Malmstadt came to King County as a Utility Laborer in February 2017. He?s as versatile as they come, including stepping up during snowstorms, coordinating teams and dispatching work, and filling in as chief as needed. He?s also known as a kind, compassionate man who cares deeply for his fellow employees.

Malmstadt was instrumental in setting up two major employee resource projects. ?The first project was a Learning and Development center, built to provide mentorship, develop future leaders and improve the overall staff learning experience. Because of the project, more computers were brought into communal areas, allowing employees to learn computer skills, take online trainings and check their employee email. The second project was a wellness center, which includes a workout space to encourage healthy behaviors.
