STRONGEST CYCLONE IN RECORDED HISTORY IN AFRICA

2.6 million lives affected, over 1,000 killed. Homes destroyed, with countless left destitute without food or basic services.

Cyclones Idai and Kenneth were some of the most destructive storms on record...but they went unnoticed by many. We have a goal to raise $3 million by midnight on 12/31 to help in Southern Africa and beyond – can we count on you?

Friend –

When Cyclone Idai hit earlier this year, it destroyed buildings and homes in Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe. And less than six weeks later, Cyclone Kenneth struck Mozambique again, bringing with it the strongest cyclone winds to make landfall in Africa's recorded history.

While this disaster barely made the news, the death and devastation is still very real – and urgent. Thanks to you, we rushed to provide aid in the wake of the disaster, and Oxfam is still on the ground with items that are most needed – clothes, clean water, food, and more. Today, families are still displaced, unable to return to homes that were leveled to the ground. Your help is still urgently needed, friend – and we've set an ambitious goal to raise $3 million before 2020 to address this crisis and others around the world.

Will you step up today to support disaster survivors and families living in poverty across the globe?

Give to Oxfam before 2019 ends and help rebuild lives in Southern Africa and more than 90 countries >>

Amelia, a farmer, lost her source of income due to Cyclone Idai. Farmers like her have been subsisting on a diet of tomato soup due to a lack of food.

Friend, events like Cyclones Idai and Kenneth are becoming more dangerous due to the climate change crisis. Higher temperatures mean rising sea levels, more extreme flooding, and heavier precipitation.

No matter where these disasters strike, they can devastate communities: displacing families, destroying homes, and ruining fields of crops. It's likely that you have experienced weather or natural disasters made worse by the climate change crisis where you live.

For people living under the shadow of poverty, the effects can be exponentially worse. Entire livelihoods can be destroyed and families can be left homeless. For a family with no safety net, an extreme weather disaster like Cyclone Idai can destroy all the progress they have made in working their own way out of poverty.

When you donate today, you can help survivors of these disasters get back on their feet with food and shelter – and give them the tools to rebuild without losing their progress against poverty.

And you make it possible for us to work together to implement long-term solutions that enable resiliency in the face of the climate change crisis. People are at the center of our approach to addressing this challenge. We're calling for global action on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and developing climate resilient solutions, like efficient irrigation systems and growing more drought resistant crops.

To save lives today and change lives far into the future, please, make a gift before midnight on 12/31 >>

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
