We must do everything we can to repair the harm the War on Drugs caused.

Ilhan for Congress

Friends,

Yesterday, President Biden announced he’s pardoning all prior federal offenses of simple marijuana possession.

Our country’s mass incarceration crisis has torn apart families, taken away housing and job opportunities, and caused immeasurable harm to disproportionately Black and Brown communities across the country.

President Biden’s announcement is a massive step toward reducing mass incarceration and ending the racist, failed War on Drugs.

In addition to pardoning federal offenses, President Biden is also calling on governors to pardon simple state possession offenses and review marijuana’s schedule 1 status — it is currently in the same class as heroin.

But our work is not over. I’ve fought in the House to pass legislation to decriminalize marijuana nationwide and expunge records for marijuana-related offenses. Now, we need to pass similar legislation in the Senate and get it to President Biden’s desk.

At this pivotal moment, will you join me in calling for the decriminalization of marijuana by adding your name?

Thousands of families will be reunited and futures will be restored. We can build on this momentum and do even more to address the harm the War on Drugs caused — as long as we keep speaking out together.

In solidarity,

Ilhan Omar
