Recently, Kelly (and her opponents) were invited to take part in an interview on KLEK 102.5 FM. It was over Zoom, so no one had to carve out that much of their day, and they could participate from *basically* anywhere.
Kelly was the only candidate for Arkansas Lieutenant Governor there.
Now, we’re about a month from the Election, and on our team, we’re using every minute we’ve got to make ourselves accessible to people all over the state. We’re attending events, hosting meet & greets, interviewing, knocking on doors, and campaigning while waiting in line for a morning coffee.
Voters must make educated decisions at the polls – and how can they do that if candidates aren’t accessible to them? (And if we can’t access them now, how can Arkansans count on them to answer constituency questions and calls for help once the next LG is sworn in?)
During that interview, Kelly got a question on abortion, adoption, and foster care. She gets this one often as she has seven sons – some of whom she has fostered and then adopted. What’s important about Kelly’s story, though, is that she chose to be a parent.
Kelly understands the complexities that come with the decision to raise or not raise a child. She has seen how many people are trying to swim upstream and navigate clunky systems, making it challenging to keep their heads above water.
Over the years, Kelly’s also supported children who have been adopted or entered into the foster care system – and how their lives started with a significant loss, and it’s something they’ll deal with throughout their lives no matter how wonderful their adoptive family is.
Right now, in Arkansas, we are Number 2 in teen pregnancies – following Mississippi in the latest report by just 0.1% – and Arkansas has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country.
These issues will never be black and white with a simple solution. That’s why Kelly will advocate for policies that proactively serve families well before there is a pregnancy to be discussed in the first place.
If you believe we need leaders willing to have those tough conversations with care and compassion, we’re hoping you’ll join our team with a contribution today.
Arkansas families deserve dignity, respect, and grace – and we’re in a full-on sprint to ensure voters know who Kelly is and that she’ll go to Little Rock to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.
Please, a donation of any amount will make a difference in the final stretch of our race.
