The Spurs have always been a significant part of San Antonio’s identity, and I am committed to ensuring they remain in Alamo City. Recently, I introduced the Strengthening Public Undertaking for Retaining Sports (SPURS) Act. This bill would make it more difficult for the San Antonio Spurs to relocate to other markets like Austin, Texas. The impact of the Spurs goes beyond the court. Having a major sports team representing San Antonio is a source of community pride and boosts the local economy.

This week I had the chance to visit two of our critical San Antonio military bases. At Camp Bullis, I received an operational update from Lieutenant General Evans and toured the vehicle maintenance shop, which I was able to secure $10 million in funding for last year. 

At Fort Sam Houston, I received a mission brief from base leadership, visited with school superintendents for a security brief and toured outdated facilities that require additional federal funding.

Our military bases and operations in the district are crucial to our national security. I will continue to ensure they are top-notch installations for our servicemembers and their families.

I had the opportunity to visit Tree City Tea and Water in Uvalde. It’s important to hear from small business owners on the challenges they are facing to guide my work for them in Congress. Always a plus when there is a delicious beverage involved.

Small businesses are the backbone of our district. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Schott’s Meat Market in Helotes where owner Mike Schott walked me through his experience as a business owner. In this economy, price increases have hurt his bottom line, like so many others across Texas. I will continue advocating for small and independent business owners through my work in Congress because businesses run by hardworking Texans like Mike allow our rural communities to flourish.

It was great to stop by Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School with Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price and school faculty to discuss the importance of education and school safety. The best part of the visit was spending time with one of the Kindergarten classes!

This week, communities across our great state of Texas honored their law enforcement agents on National Night Out. I was honored to participate and thank the countless first responders that keep our neighborhoods safe. From joining in on the elementary school art contest with Shavano Park Mayor Bob Werner to visiting with Castroville first responders & Border Patrol agents, I was glad to visit with these heroes. Events like these are a great way for the community to come together and thank our law enforcement.

After creating chaos at our southern border for nearly two years, Vice President Harris is finally coming to Texas this week. Unfortunately, she refuses to visit the southern border during her trip and is choosing to fundraise in Austin instead. This is yet another sign that the Biden Administration has abandoned the deadly border crisis it created. Click here to read my full remarks with the New York Post on the situation.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the accomplishments and successful careers of Hispanic Americans across many fields. This week we have recognized Dr. Hector Gonzales (President of Southwest Texas Junior College), Former Congressman Henry Bonilla (First Republican Representative for TX-23), Rachel Gonzales-Hanson (Interim President of the National Association of Community Health Centers), Hector and Sonia Armendariz and their three daughters (Owners of The Bean Cafe), Elizabeth Polanco (Ward County Justice of the Peace), and Oscar Aguero (Superintendent of Marfa ISD).
