Sign Up Update on Ballot Proposals A Summary of Proposal 1 Do you know what Proposal 1 does? Clara Hendrickson gives a great summary: "If approved, it would reduce the number of years a state lawmaker could serve in the state Legislature from 14 to 12 years. But it would enable state lawmakers to serve all 12 of those years in one chamber: allowing state representatives to serve a maximum of six two-year terms and state senators to serve up to three four-year terms. In other words, it would double the time lawmakers can spend in the state House or allow an additional term in the state Senate." Why do proponents want this? Former president and CEO of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Rich Studley, says it allows legislators "to gain enough experience so that we can slow the revolving door, especially in the state House, so that politicians can focus on the job they have instead of constantly raising funds to prepare for the next election and seek higher office." What do opponents have to say against it? Executive director of No More Time for Career Politicians, Kurt O'Keefe, says the goal of this proposal is not to limit politicians, but to allow them double the time in the House or four more years in the Senate. "Term limits forces turnover. There's just an incumbent advantage, we know it's there." He also said Proposal 1 benefits lobbyists in allowing legislators to serve much longer if they stay put in either the House or Senate. "Once a lobbyist has a relationship with a legislator... they want them in there as long as possible, they don't want them flipping around every six or eight years." Learn More Proposal 2 Would Reverse Your Hard Work! Thousands of Michigan citizens worked hard for months to collect over 500,000 signatures, letting Michigan leaders know that we want safe and secure elections! These petitions were submitted to the Michigan Secretary of State. They are currently pending approval for them to go on to the Michigan Legislature. However, a certain group of people don't want safe and secure elections: they want power and influence. Thus they launched the "Protect the Vote" initiative that is now on YOUR November 2022 ballot. Learn More The Legal Ramifications of Proposal 3 Michigan citizens will soon vote on Proposal 3 (the "Reproductive Freedom for All" proposal), which would amend Michigan’s Constitution to make abortion a fundamental right. But Proposal 3 goes much further than merely restoring Roe v. Wade. No matter how one feels about abortion, Proposal 3 is terrifying. This extreme proposal would make Michigan an outlier, not only in the United States but around the world. We must stand against this radical proposal that will endanger the lives of women and children. Want to help us defeat Proposal 3? CLICK HERE. Click here to help us stop Proposal 3. Did you know? This amendment would repeal Michigan's partial-birth and late-term abortion bans. It would also allow minors to get abortions without parental consent. This goes much further than any previous pro-abortion law or policy, allowing for unrestricted abortion access and erasing the role of parents in their children's lives. Proposal 3 must be stopped if we are to save the lives of tens of thousands of children every year in Michigan.
