Hello Waltz Warriors, Despite the horrible destruction Hurricane Ian has caused, Floridians and their unbreakable spirit will get through this tragedy. We are dedicating this newsletter to sharing resources, highlighting the latest recovery news, and sharing updates from Mike in the district. Our hearts and prayers are with every single person who lost their homes and livelihoods, and especially those who have lost loved ones. Nothing is stronger than Florida’s fight to overcome. Together, we will get through this tough time. |
In the District Over the last week, Mike has been in the district surveying the damage Hurricane Ian caused and meeting with first responders at Emergency Operations Centers in Volusia, Flagler and St. Johns counties in an effort to get a handle on how the federal government can continue assisting storm victims. |
Mike also met with Red Cross volunteers from all over the country at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center shelter on Wednesday. Thank you to all the brave first responders, service members, and volunteers who are all working hard to keep our community informed and safe as we begin to rescue & recover from the damage left behind by Hurricane Ian. |
Mike visited the St. Johns River to report it is STILL rising and flooding areas in central FL as the massive rainfall from the hurricane drains into our rivers and lakes. Pleased to see FEMA open individual assistance for Lake County! Visit http://disasterassistance.gov. |
WALTZ ON BIDENS VACCINE MANDATE On Monday, Mike joined Fox News' Fox and Friends First to discuss the Biden administration's 'asinine' mandate that will cost some U.S. service members their jobs: "With natural disasters, Russia threatening nuclear war and China's rapid military buildup, we can’t lose over 22k service members over a vaccine that doesn’t stop the spread. Kicking out troops over a vaccine is illogical & extremely harmful to our readiness and recruitment." |

WALTZ ON HURRICANE IAN Later that day, Mike joined Fox again to discuss Hurricane Ian's damage and the Biden Administration's vaccine mandate further: "[My district] really took a 1-2-3 punch between the river flooding, the unprecedented amounts of rain, and storm surge on the east coast as well. We have sewage facilities that were overwhelmed, roads that have been backed up, dunes that have been breached, but the biggest piece is the historic level of flooding." |
WALTZ ON BIDENS TRIP TO FLORIDA On Tuesday, Mike Waltz discussed expectations for Biden's trip to Florida to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Ian on Varney & Co, saying: "This is going to be a long-term effort. What I hope the president will do is show leadership and encourage Pelosi and Schumer to not load up some future disaster relief bill with progressive priorities. What I'd really like Congress to do is look at some of our COVID and and repurpose that in the short-term rather than spending new money." |

WALTZ ON HURRICANE IAN, ILLEGAL MIGRANTS, & HUNTER BIDEN Then on Wednesday, Mike joined Fox News' Gillian Turner to talk about the aftermath of Hurricane Ian in Florida, illegal migrants, and Hunter Biden's business dealings. "When I reach out to veterans who aren't getting the services they need, teachers whose schools are already crowded, hospitals that can't provide all the services they want to-- There is an opportunity cost to American citizens when we have 2 million people a year that are flowing across our border." |
