The upcoming elections are critical for preserving the separation of church and state, women’s rights, LGBTQ protection, and many of our other personal rights. They will determine which judges are approved, and which laws Congress and states will pass to protect our rights — or take them away.

The Supreme Court is back in session and will decide at least one more religion case, in which someone’s religious beliefs tell her she can discriminate against LGBTQ customers. Congress will return for a lame duck session in which a bill to codify the legality of same-sex marriage and a bill to strengthen the way Congress approves election results will be considered. That’s just this fall. Much is at stake.

We need your help to elect candidates who base their decisions on fact and science, not on extremist religious dogma. Your support will allow us to organize and motivate secular voters this November to counter those who are attempting to use the government to force their religious views on all of us. We created a secular voter scorecard ([link removed]) to help people evaluate current members of Congress.

You can also find information on registering to vote, requesting a mail-in ballot, and much more on the Secular America Votes page ([link removed]) , now being hosted by our coalition member the Secular Student Alliance. Vote early if you can but please make sure you get to the polls; it’s always important.

The Secular Coalition for America represents a diverse group of 20 organizations that includes atheists, agnostics, humanists, and other “nones,” whose mission is to advocate for the equal rights of nonreligious Americans and defend the separation of religion and government.

According to Pew Research, about three-in-ten U.S. adults (29%) are religious “nones”, people who describe themselves as atheists, agnostics or “nothing in particular” when asked about their religious identity. Christian Nationalists and other religious extremists are a smaller population but have created a motivated voting bloc around hostility to women’s rights, LGBTQ protections, and gun control legislation, in addition to the myth of widespread election fraud.
