My grandfather, FDR, signed Social Security into law. It was his most impactful and long lasting program.
Like Roe vs. Wade, many people have denied that the guarantee of Social Security could ever be overturned. But that is exactly what extremist U.S. Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin is proposing.
Johnson recently called for making Social Security "discretionary" every year -- left to the discretion of Mitch McConnell, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and other extremists if Republicans take control of Congress. He's supported cuts to Social Security and also praised privatization, the risky gambling of Social Security money on Wall Street.
Today, I endorse Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race. He opposes cuts to Social Security, will protect the benefits that retired workers have earned, and will fight to ensure Social Security meets the modern needs of Americans.
NBC reports on a big-money "spending surge" by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans in Wisconsin, resulting in Johnson taking a narrow lead in this neck-and-neck race.
Mandela has fueled his campaign with grassroots donations. He is campaigning across the state, standing with workers, and reminding people of the Democratic Party’s legacy as the party of working people. But he needs our help to get this message out.
Nothing is more important than Wisconsin’s Senate race for the future of Social Security, abortion rights, and even American democracy.
