Dear Friend,

Earlier this week, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals gave a temporary reprieve to current DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients. This is great because DACA is a critical program that ensures people who were brought to the U.S. as children can live and work in the communities where they grew up. However, it is very clear that the DACA program is in grave peril, primarily because Congress has failed to create permanent protections for the hundreds of thousands of people who were brought to this country as children, making it the only place they have ever called home.

Only Congress can protect DACA recipients now and provide permanent protections for them by passing legislation before the end of the year! Tell your members of Congress they must protect immigrant youth! *When you click, you’ll automatically sign on if we already have your information.

What’s happening? Thankfully, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals just decided to allow people in the DACA program to renew their status – for now – but is sending a case challenging the legality of the DACA program back to the lower court to consider the new Biden administration regulation fortifying the program.

The Fifth Circuit decision is a reprieve, a warning, and an urgent call to action for Congress to act for the lives of more than 800,000 DACA recipients who have built their lives here, who have started their families, who have served their communities throughout the pandemic. More than 1.3 million people across the country live with a DACA recipient, including 300,000 U.S. born children who have at least one parent protected under DACA. [1] Ending the DACA program could result in the separation of hundreds of thousands of families.

Dear Members of Congress:

While the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision is a temporary reprieve, the DACA program is in grave peril and Congress must take immediate action to create permanent protections for the hundreds of thousands of people who were brought to this country as children, making it the only place they have ever called home. They are our health care providers, teachers, and care workers. They hold essential jobs that strengthen our communities. Many are parents who are at risk for being separated from their families. They deserve a path to citizenship and for the uncertainty about their futures to end. Every immigrant deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect. Please act before the end of 2022 to put permanent protections into place for DACA recipients.
