Breaking Big Pharma’s Monopoly

I joined Protect Our Care’s nationwide bus tour this week in New Brunswick to celebrate the Inflation Reduction Act’s historic provisions that will lower prescription drug and health care costs.

The Inflation Reduction Act is one of the most significant pieces of health care legislation to move through Congress in over a decade. It will lower prescription drug costs for seniors by finally empowering Medicare to negotiate the cost of prescription drugs, capping the amount seniors pay for drugs at $2,000 annually, and capping the amount they pay for insulin at $35 per month. It also penalizes Big Pharma companies for unfairly hiking prices on seniors.

It will also dramatically lower the cost of monthly health insurance premiums for millions of Americans by extending expanded Affordable Care Act Marketplace subsidies through the end of 2025.

Protect Our Care Lowering Drug Costs New Brunswick

As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I originally authored and introduced the prescription drug and health care provisions in the new law. It will help ensure seniors are no longer ripped off at the pharmacy counter by capping both their annual out-of-pocket drug spending and how much they are charged for insulin.

I am currently accepting applications for my Youth Advisory Council through November 18. All current high school students that are residents of New Jersey’s Sixth Congressional District may submit their applications during this time.

The Youth Advisory Council allows me to gain invaluable insight from the students of my district. I am a firm believer that young Americans should have an active role in shaping our nation's future. I created the Youth Advisory Council to give community-minded and civically engaged students an opportunity to take part in public service, share their experiences, and discuss issues that are important to them with me and my staff.
