E-ZPass Minnesota: Existing and future lanes [ [link removed] ]
Minnesota is now part of the E-ZPass network and MnPASS has rebranded to E-ZPass Minnesota [ [link removed] ]. Because of this change, we are archiving this email list.
E-ZPass is the largest group of interoperable tolling systems in the country and is found in 19 states. Your E-ZPass tag works on all E-ZPass systems throughout the United States, but there are subtle differences between the various states and facilities.
How E-ZPass Minnesota works
E-ZPass Minnesota operates the same as MnPASS. During peak weekday hours, the lanes are free for buses, motorcycles, and vehicles with two or more people (HOV 2+). Solo drivers pay a fee when they choose to use E-ZPass during peak hours in Minnesota (Monday-Friday, 6-10 a.m. and 3-7 p.m.). Outside of these hours, the lane is a regular lane and open to all traffic. Learn more about how E-ZPass Minnesota works [ [link removed] ].
The rules for using E-ZPass vary depending on where and when you travel. In Minnesota, single occupant vehicles pay a fee only during peak commuting hours. In other states, hours of operation change, and the number of people required for HOV status might be different. Learn more about the national E-ZPass network [ [link removed] ].
Non-Minnesota E-ZPass tags
While other state?s E-ZPass tags work in Minnesota, they are always in fee-paying mode?you are charged no matter how many people you have in the vehicle. If you are driving as a carpool (HOV 2+) in Minnesota, and do not wish to be charged, you either need to remove your other tag from your vehicle or register for an account and tag from E-ZPass Minnesota which offers the ability to switch between HOV and single occupant status.
