I need to ask you to help me accomplish something big and ambitious today. This is probably the most important ask I’ve made of you all year, and it’s an action you can take that can help us save more lives from gun violence.
Do you remember the NR8? Back in October 2018, we held a 24-hour fundraiser for 8 gun safety candidates running in flippable districts against NRA-backed opponents. It was a huge success, and we need a similar kind of mobilization for this year’s midterms.
So we’ve identified 8 of the most competitive and important campaigns that need our help this year — two Senate races, a gubernatorial race, four house races and one ballot initiative. Winning these races can help us make change at every level of government.
Just like the fight to end gun violence, today has to be a true team effort if we’re going to pull this off.
That’s why I’m partnering up with my friend Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has helped lead the fight to end gun violence in California, as well as Gabby Giffords, Brady PAC, and Moms Demand/Everytown.
In 2018, our movement helped every single one of our NR8 candidates win. All of them are still in Congress today, and it’s no exaggeration to say that this summer’s gun violence prevention bill would not have passed without them.
But we know that the bill we passed this summer, while historic, is not enough. There is more we can do, and every single one of this year’s NR8 campaigns agrees.
