An inherited eye disease, thought to be untreatable, was gradually
stealing Monroe's sight. But a breakthrough gene therapy led her to
CHLA, one of only 10 institutions approved to perform the procedure,
and the only one in California.

Spider-Man cast members Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jake Gyllenhaal
surprised our kids, many of whom are indeed far from home. The visit

Adrian Finds Freedom in New Epilepsy Playroom

CHLA's epilepsy monitoring playroom is the only playroom of its type
in Southern California, and one of only a few in the country. Wired
with video cameras and EEG electrodes, it allows epilepsy patients to
get out of their rooms to play and meet other kids, all while being
monitored for signs of seizures.

A 'Hole-some' Way to Overcome MRI Anxiety

At our third annual Butterfly Clinic, 8-year-old Angel learned how an
MRI machine works by placing toy animals into the "donut" scanner to
see on screen how the animal is scanned. "This helps the kids get
comfortable with the machine so they can see that it won't hurt," says
Jazmine Bellamy, RN.

From Grateful Mom to CHLA Ambassador

Kathy Hauck's daughter, Jia, was born in China with a cleft lip and
palate. As Hauck prepared to bring her 17-month-old home to L.A., she
needed a place that could ensure the best surgical and comprehensive
care for years to come. She knew she'd found it when friends
