Dear friend,
Happy holidays! In a year that has seen both victories for reform and outrageous injustice, I have three gifts of hope for you:
1. All year, we have been working with an incarcerated man who is dedicated to helping his very sick fellow prisoners. From tending them in the prison hospital to assisting them with applying for compassionate release, this man is truly selfless. There is deep kindness and generosity behind bars, and we hope you’ll be inspired by his example this season.
2. Last week, we spent time with two teenagers who reunited with their dad, who was recently released from prison after more than a decade. The family was worried since the children have essentially grown up without him. However, they are doing great. The road to wholeness is bumpy — and the teenage years are tough on any parents! — but they're pushing through.
3. The army of family supporters we are building to fight for reform is really growing. Every day, we get phone calls, emails, texts, and visits from advocates like you. They are ready and willing, and they are filled with love and support for those most affected by our criminal justice system. We could not do what we do without them — and that includes you, friends
This holiday season — and beyond — we're letting incarcerated individuals and their families know that they are not forgotten. Each and every staff member here at FAMM will be thinking of them and wishing them joy and hope. We wish the same for you, friends and also extend our deepest gratitude.
Happy Holidays,
Kevin Ring President, FAMM
