Take action now to change federal law

Friend, I’m thrilled to share that President Biden just announced major steps forward on marijuana policy reform: [link removed]

He said he will pardon every person with simple marijuana charges at the federal level, urge Governors to do the same in every state and D.C., and begin a process that could change how marijuana is scheduled federally.

This is significant progress in the right direction made possible by years of advocacy from dedicated supporters like you.

It is incredibly long overdue especially since most Americans have supported these reforms for years. There is no reason that people should be saddled with a criminal record—preventing them from obtaining employment, housing, and countless other opportunities—for something that is already legal in 19 states and D.C. and decriminalized in 31 states.

Together, we’ve been urging President Biden to follow through on his campaign promises and today shows that he’s finally listening. But we need your help to keep pushing.

The Biden Administration and Congress must go even further and fully deschedule marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). Rescheduling means people will continue to face criminal charges for marijuana, research will continue to be blocked, and states that have legalized marijuana will still be at odds with federal law.

Descheduling is the only way to fully end federal marijuana prohibition and begin to repair the harms that it has caused to our communities. With your support, we’ve been making historic headway to do just that by passing the MORE Act in the U.S. House twice and with the recent introduction of the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act (CAOA) in the U.S. Senate which would fully remove marijuana from the CSA, provide expungement and resentencing for past marijuana convictions beyond simple possession, and comprehensively repair the harms of marijuana criminalization.

While we are happy to see progress today, this is our moment to go further in our fight. Join us by urging your U.S. Senators to support and pass the CAOA to deliver marijuana justice nationwide.
