KATV hosts gubernatorial debate; Sanders declines to participate

After yesterday’s debate, I’m feeling the energy of this grassroots movement we’re building here in Arkansas. I was grateful for the opportunity to debate with my Libertarian opponent.

But guess who wasn’t on the debate stage last night? That’s right, Sarah Huckabee Sanders couldn’t bother to show up.

It's becoming increasingly clear that I’m the only candidate for governor who actually wants to govern. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is avoiding town halls, media interviews, debates, and any campaign events that involve speaking directly to voters — and that’s strategic. She has zero plans listed on her official campaign website, and she’d rather spend her time cozying up to wealthy GOP donors than actually talking about the issues that matter to our neighbors.

I know our team is ready to take this movement all the way to the governor’s office, but I’ll be candid: Sarah Huckabee Sanders is bringing in millions despite the visionless campaign she’s running, and we need to keep our funding up in this last month of the election in order to compete with her. Arkansans deserve to hear from their leaders and anyone who aspires to public office in our state, point blank.

Unlike Sarah Huckabee Sanders, I’ll always show up for my fellow Arkansans and listen to the issues that are keeping them up at night. Between our two statewide tours (to all 75 counties!), I haven’t been very hard to find. I’ve outlined a whole lot of policy ideas on my campaign website because I believe in sharing my thoughts with you all, not operating in secret or acting like I’m above the folks I’m representing.

I’m disappointed that Sarah Huckabee Sanders isn’t showing up for important debates like this one — but we’re getting the chance to speak directly to Arkansans about our detailed plans, and now’s our chance to potentially take control of this race.
