President Biden just took the monumental and long-overdue step of pardoning all prior offenses of marijuana possession.
This is the culmination of years of efforts by a movement of people working toward justice, after a long history of discrimination and the criminalization of Black and brown communities in this country. The President also directed his administration to look into changing cannabis's Schedule 1 status, which is a key step in the path to decriminalization.
Last year, Jamaal led other members of Congress in writing a letter to President Biden urging him to just do this — and now we're seeing decisive action. This is what happens when a movement puts up the good fight and pressures our government for change.
