STOCKTON, CA – Campaign counsel for the Tom Patti for Congress campaign today sent a letter to Josh Harder demanding that Harder’s campaign “immediately cease and desist from all messages or statements of any kind asserting that Supervisor Tom Patti is under investigation for bribery or any other wrongdoing, or that Supervisor Patti voted to raise gas taxes.” (See letter attached). The letter was sent because, despite knowing that such statements are provably false, the Harder campaign has failed to take down billboards containing the false accusations.
As the letter points out, on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors voted NOT to censure Supervisor Patti or take any other action as a result of various unfounded accusations. Nonetheless, Harder’s billboard near the Tracy Boulevard exit is still up, incorrectly stating: “Supervisor Tom Patti Under Investigation for Bribery.”
The Harder campaign also has multiple billboards stating that “Supervisor Tom Patti Voted to Raise the Gas Tax by 40%.” The Sacramento Bee fact checked the statement on September 22, 2022, and exposed the allegation as false (labeling it as “out of context”). As pointed out in the article, in fact the gas tax was passed by the California legislature, controlled by Harder’s Democrat party.
“Harder’s illegal and defamatory smear campaign is obviously designed to take attention away from soaring gas prices and inflation caused by him and his party,” Patti said. “He falsely tries to pin a gas tax on me, while it is his party’s anti-energy policies that are the main cause of gas prices doubling over the past two years,” said Patti. “We must stop attacking American energy production and pursue instead an ‘all of the above’ approach and restore our energy independence,” Patti said. “That is what will bring down gas prices, not the radical ‘green new deal’ that Harder and his party are focused on.”
