John – Florida is just beginning to dig out from the damage of Hurricane Ian. The death toll has risen to at least 109 as crews work their way through flooded neighborhoods to search for survivors.
You may have seen that Florida’s GOP representatives in Congress all callously voted AGAINST federal aid for their state in the wake of the storm. It’s hard to believe that members of Congress would actively endanger the lives of their constituents to score political points with their base – but here we are.
As we help Florida, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and other areas impacted by recent hurricanes rebuild, it is critical that we elect legislators who take a long-term view and address the root cause of these violent storms – the climate crisis.
BNC’s Maxwell Alejandro Frost, the Democratic nominee for Florida’s 10th congressional district, recently appeared on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell to talk about the link between increasingly severe weather and the climate crisis, and what he plans to do about that in Congress.
You can watch the whole clip here and then split a contribution between BNC and Maxwell to help him win. [[link removed]]

Maxwell is set to be the first member of Generation Z elected to Congress this November, and like most young people he takes the climate crisis very seriously.
Maxwell has pledged to fight for the Green New Deal and a Civilian Climate Corps, calling on the federal government to invest in bold climate action NOW.
As he said on Lawrence’s show:
“We see many of our cities across the state, and specifically in Southwest Florida, completely flattened. People have died. And this is part of the reason why I decided to run for Congress in the first place. The cost of not doing anything as far as the climate crisis is concerned is far greater than the cost of taking bold action now. And that cost isn’t just in dollars and cents. It’s in human lives.”
Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10)
Maxwell has understandably taken some time away from campaigning as he works to help his state recover from the storm. Recently he joined with several local groups, including the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, the Central Florida Diaper Bank, and Equal Ground Florida as they coordinated relief efforts for impacted communities.

Elections matter, and this storm is going to impact the critical upcoming election in Florida. While Maxwell and his team focus on storm relief, we need to give their campaign a boost.
We need people like Maxwell in Congress to fight for the Green New Deal. Can you split a contribution of $50, $100 or more now to help us elect Maxwell in November? [[link removed]]

We must have a sustainable, future-oriented path to recovery for storms like Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Fiona (which recently struck Puerto Rico).
Simply rebuilding what was lost is not going to be good enough. We have to decarbonize the economy and transition off of fossil fuels as rapidly as possible. We have to rebuild both with an eye towards storm protection and sustainability.
That’s what Maxwell will fight for in Congress, and we are proud to stand by his side.
In solidarity,
Brand New Congress

Since 2016 BNC has led the way in advancing popular policies like Medicare for All and the Green New Deal and electing bold progressive fighters. We recruited and elected AOC in 2018 and Cori Bush in 2020. With seven BNC Reps currently in office [[link removed]] , we are growing progressive power in Congress.
This November we’re working to flip multiple red seats, fill open seats with bold progressives, and elect our first BNC Senator by defeating Rand Paul.
Pitch in today and join us as we take over Congress and return power to the people.
