John, many families across Suffolk County today are celebrating Christmas. To all, I wish you a safe and joyous holiday.

This is a time of year to take joy in the spirit of togetherness, to show appreciation for the people in our lives, and to think about what is most important to us.

We also need to remember those who are not able to be home for the holidays -- including the brave men and women serving overseas. And we must reflect on all we can do to share the holiday spirit with people less fortunate than ourselves.

I hope you are able to get some rest this week, enjoy the company of others (plus good food!), and take a moment to look back on all that you've done this year to make our community and country a better place.
