Dear John

The UK government is planning a bonfire of the laws that protect our environment.

We could lose essential rules like those that limit river pollution. Or protect us from toxic pesticides. And its "investment zones" could create a concrete countryside. Even in national parks.

This wild attack on environmental protections has to be stopped. So please sign this urgent petition today to stand up for nature. For everyone’s sake.

The prime minister is going all-out for dangerous deregulation. At a scale never seen before.

If the UK government’s Retained EU Law Bill goes ahead, hundreds of environmental laws could be ripped up. Wherever you stood on Brexit, do you trust Liz Truss to replace them with anything better?

Her government also wants to scrap environmental protection laws from its new investment zones. This would make them a free-for-all for big developers. No matter what damage they cause to people and planet.

Its talk of relaxing planning rules is also worrying. Especially for communities already living in unhealthy environments. People could lose their ability to say no to developments that would harm their health. Like roads and incinerators.

But there’s hope. From the RSPB to the Wildlife Trusts, the movement to stop the attack on nature is growing.

We’ve joined over 70 organisations who’ve written to the government demanding a change of direction. And you can join the call too by signing and sharing this petition today.

Politics is unpredictable at the moment. But we know that if enough people speak up together and kick up a fuss, dangerous plans can be averted.

A recent YouGov survey found that 81% of UK adults believe wildlife and the environment are under threat. That’s a lot of us. So now’s the time to speak up.

Best wishes
Kierra
