Dear friend,
Our hearts are with our North American supporters and colleagues in
Florida and the Carolinas whose lives have been deeply affected by
Hurricane Ian. In places around the globe, Mercy Corps teams are
responding to extreme weather in communities already burdened by conflict,
poverty, and limited resources — causing these kinds of disasters to take
an even greater toll.
Extreme weather driven by climate change is wreaking havoc worldwide — and
most often, the countries that contribute the least to global warming are
the ones that suffer most.
Right now, families across Puerto Rico continue to recover from Hurricane
Fiona. Across the ocean, Kenya is entering its fifth year of drought. And
millions in Pakistan remain displaced after months of intense flooding.

The world must take bold action to support people whose lives and
livelihoods have been turned upside down by crises including climate
disasters and conflict. [ [link removed] ]Will you come forward and send help with a
generous gift right now?

Here’s how our teams have been responding to some of the most recent
climate-driven emergencies — [ [link removed] ]and how your gift today can make a
difference for those at the center of climate disasters and
conflict-driven crisis around the globe:
In Pakistan
Distributing food, water, and cash in areas that were most affected by
the recent flash flooding
Mobilizing health camps in collaboration with our local partners to
help stop the spread of waterborne diseases
Focusing on reaching large families, women-led households, and people
with disabilities
In Puerto Rico
Surging support to local organizations we have worked with since
Hurricane Maria in 2017, so they can distribute urgently needed items
like food, water, and hygiene products
Activating Resilience Hubs that our teams have helped establish in
community centers across Puerto Rico, where people can access electric
charging stations, WiFi, refrigeration, and potable water
Enabling door-to-door delivery of critical supplies to households and
individuals who are unable to travel to Resilience Hubs

Volunteers at the Association Pro Juventud y Comunidad de Barrio Palmas
(APJ), a Resilience Hub supported by Mercy Corps from 2017-2020, prepare
food, clean water, and flashlights for distribution.
Mercy Corps tackles climate challenges head on by enhancing people’s
ability to cope, adapt, and thrive in the face of disasters like the
extreme global weather events in recent weeks. This is year-round work
that helps save lives and protect communities when emergencies strike.
Climate disasters are going to accelerate, and while we can’t stop many of
their impacts, we can do our part to help people who are most vulnerable
to them.
