John, on Jan. 6, 2021, I watched in horror, like countless other Americans did, as our Capitol was attacked in a deadly insurrection fueled by lies, conspiracy theories, and hate. In that moment, I knew that I needed to do something.
Since then, I have seen the division in our politics and our communities grow even more extreme. I have seen the work of legislating devolve into mud-slinging and partisan attacks. I have seen politics and vitriol tear families, friends, and neighbors apart.
This is not how politics are supposed to work.
Politicians are supposed to serve constituents, bring people together for the common good, and keep our democracy strong. You simply cannot do that while you're defending, excusing, ignoring, or even inciting an insurrection.
I am running for the Senate for so many reasons – ending the opioid epidemic, giving families the real solutions that they need to make ends meet, restoring our right to bodily autonomy, and more. But the deadly extremism and division in our politics is what first convinced me that I needed to take action.
For me, that something meant continuing my record of service by running to represent Missouri families in the Senate. But each of us has a part to play in this work, so now, I need to ask you to do something, too: I cannot win this race without support from people like you. Please, with the election just a month away, will you donate to help me bring compassionate leadership to Washington and heal the division and vitriol tearing our communities apart? I'm counting on your help in these final weeks to flip Missouri blue.
