OCTOBER 2022 WOLVES NEED YOUR VOTE CORRECTION WHILE THE LINK IN THE ORIGINAL NEWSLETTER IS CORRECT; THE TEXT WAS WRONG. . IT HAS BEEN CORRECTED BELOW TO REFLECT THE HUMANE SOCIETY LEGISLATIVE FUND. As a 501(c)3, the National Wolfwatcher Coalition cannot endorse any candidate and we can not make any suggestions as to how you should vote in the upcoming elections. We can tell you that nearly all wolf management decisions are political. Many falsely believe decisions are made by biologists employed by State Agencies, using the best scientific data. But, in reality, council members or commissioners of the Game Management Boards, making decisions regarding wildlife management, usually represent hunting interests, with little background in natural resources and are often appointed by the Governor or Legislature. When Michigan voters said NO to the hunting of wolves, the legislature passed a bill, which became law when signed by then Governor Snyder designating wolves a game animal. This circumvented the will of the people and set the stage for a wolf hunting season upon federal delisting. Is your Federal or State Representative a friend or foe of the wolf? What is their position regarding other wildlife issues, such as predator killing contests or the environment? Do you know how they voted for issues that matter most to you? Don't forget local elections and judges. Learn about their voting record. Ask questions. Be an informed voter and vote for wolves; vote for wildlife; vote for scientific management decisions! Some simple things you can do to celebrate wolves: Submit a letter to the newspaper, explaining why you support wolves. Contact your legislative representative, explaining why wolves need to be protected. Tell someone you know a positive aspect of wolves. Better yet, tell 2 or 3! Education is the key to wolf survival. If each of us talks to several people who may have only heard the myths, we may be able to make a real change. Do it for the wolves! PHOTO CREDIT KRIS GAYLER THANK YOU!
