Hey John,

Congresswoman Katie Porter here. Like most of you, I try to be mindful of how my everyday actions affect our planet. I take my reusable bags to the grocery store, I carry a metal straw in my purse, and I’m always reminding my kids to turn off the lights.

But our individual actions aren’t enough. That’s why as a Member of Congress, I’m fighting to hold Big Oil companies accountable for price gouging and polluting.

*
This
year,
I
introduced
a
bill
to
make
it
illegal
for
Big
Oil
companies
to
get
tax
credits
for
deceptive
marketing.
Chevron
regularly
markets
its
products
as
“green”
but
only
spent
0.2%
on
renewable
resources
from
2010-2018.
It’s
bad
enough
that
they
lie
about
the
effects
of
drilling,
but
they
certainly
shouldn’t
use
our
tax
dollars
to
do
so.
*
Last
year,
I
used
my
minivan
and
479lbs
of
rice
to
demonstrate
how
much
public
land
Big
Oil
is
holding
onto—and
not
even
using.
Each
grain
represented
just
ONE
of
the
13.9
million
publicly
owned,
unused
acres
of
land
leased
by
Big
Oil.
That’s
equivalent
to
all
of
the
land
in
Maryland
and
New
Jersey
combined.
Our
public
land
belongs
to
the
American
people,
not
Big
Oil.
But
the
oil
and
gas
executives
I
talked
to
refuse
to
support
a
pause
on
new
public
land
leases.
They
already
have
millions
of
acres,
but
they
say
it’s
still
not
enough.
Congress
must
hold
them
accountable.

I’m proud to be one of few members of Congress who rejects contributions from lobbyists, corporate PACs, and executives at Big Oil, Big Pharma, or Wall Street Banks. I’m not afraid to hold them accountable and spell out exactly how they are taking advantage of Americans.

I’m running for re-election because our government needs people who will continue to call out the BS from these greedy corporations. I’m proud to be a member of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC), whose members are Congress’ fiercest advocates for holding polluters accountable. But this is my toughest race yet : With only 33 days left until Election Day, I hope you’ll consider splitting a donation between my campaign and SEEC PAC. [[link removed]]

Thank you for considering, John.

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here [[link removed]] to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe: [link removed] .
