Friends:

We wrote to you yesterday because of the unprecedented breakdown in security and services in Haiti. Months of instability and violence intensified in recent weeks causing a near-complete lockdown in much of the country.

This crisis is driven by injustices and is a direct result of a lack of investment in the public sector and a long history of oppression – including slavery, economic exploitation and foreign invasion. The people of Haiti, especially the most impoverished, are left to suffer.

Donate now to help provide health care in Haiti during this crisis: [link removed]

One immediate consequence is an enduring shortage of fuel, which is necessary to generate electricity to power everything from lights for surgery to oxygen delivery. That shortage went critical recently, and our team’s fuel reserves are down to just days.

Electricity is non-negotiable for health care. It keeps NICU beds warm, surgical and laboratory equipment on, and refrigerators with vaccines and life-saving chemotherapy medications cold. This is why we are sparing no effort to mitigate the fuel shortages by:

1. Reducing consumption wherever possible,
2. Limiting staff movement,
3. And working to increase solar capacity at University Hospital of Mirebalais (HUM) in the near future and eventually at other ZL-supported sites.

Your donation can’t make more fuel available, but it can help ensure that costs don’t stop our team from purchasing necessary supplies, investing even more in solar capacity, and delivering lifesaving health care during this crisis.
In solidarity,

Thank you for your steadfast support.

In solidarity,

Partners In Health
