Fighting For Robust Public Safety
Protecting public safety is the most core function of government and I have been advocating for months for the passage of critical legislation that keeps our communities safe by funding our police, supporting de-escalation and mental health training, and developing evidence-based violence prevention initiatives.
New Jersey has the most professional law enforcement and first responders in the nation, and this legislation will ensure that they have the resources they need to reduce crime in our communities and to keep us safe. Read more about the legislation here.
Saving Lives Through Sepsis Research
During September, which is Sepsis Awareness Month, I introduced bipartisan, bicameral legislation alongside Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) in honor of a young girl from NJ-11, Lulu, who tragically passed in 2014 from sepsis at just 4 years old following an appendectomy. This commonsense bill will expand research to prevent, treat, and improve patient care for those suffering from this life-threatening complication.

Preventing Flooding Using Weather Forecasting
As Chairwoman of the Environment Subcommittee for the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I work hard to protect our communities from extreme weather and climate hazards. At a recent hearing, I called on NOAA and NASA witnesses to testify on how modernizing critical weather satellites would give us the most advanced forecasting tools on earth.
NASA will launch NOAA’s next polar satellite this November and launched the latest geostationary satellite this past March. I am especially excited about this satellite’s Lightning Mapper that will use lightning location/intensity to predict the kind of extreme intensity rainfall that has caused flash flooding in NJ-11.

Advocating for Women Veterans
Army combat veteran Lucy Del Gaudio has been a fierce advocate for women veterans in Northern NJ and an invaluable resource to me throughout my time in office. It was great to welcome her to DC last month where she joined a Women Veterans Task Force Roundtable on Military-to-Civilian Transition for MST Survivors with the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
NJ-11 Standing With Ukraine
I was honored to join UACCNJ and the NJ-11 Ukrainian American community with other local electeds at this year’s Ukrainian Festival. It was inspiring to see the NJ-11 community come out and continue to show their incredible support for Ukraine! Read more about the festival here.
During my visits to Ukraine before the war, and again this summer, I saw the strength and resolve of a nation fighting for democracy. Read more here about what I learned, and how NJ-11 continues to stand with Ukraine.
Hearing From You Throughout NJ-11
The Florham Institute of Lifelong Learning Gala
FDU’s Florham Institute for Lifelong Learning provides North Jersey seniors with the opportunity to take courses alongside FDU college students. I joined the FILL community to celebrate 50 years of providing continuing learning opportunities in NJ-11.
NJ-11’s Environmental Champions
NJ-11 has a long history of fighting to protect our environment and open spaces. It was great to see this advocacy continuing from constituents of all ages at the Chatham Sustainability Fair and EV Expo. With the Inflation Reduction Act, I have been working in Congress to invest in the environment and the clean energy economy in NJ-11.
Happy 100th Anniversary Chatham Community Players!
While I was in Chatham, I was so excited to honor the Chatham Community Players on their 100th Anniversary with this flag flown over the US Capitol. Thank you to my friend Mayor Kobylarz for formally presenting the flag at their celebration.
Celebrating Durga Puja
Thank you to the Indian Community Center of the Garden State for welcoming me to your Durga Puja festival and prayers in Parsippany. I was honored to gather with our community members who were celebrating the victory of the Goddess Durga over the demon king and the triumph of good over evil.
Honoring the Human Needs Food Pantry
I am so proud to have the Human Needs Food Pantry, who is now celebrating 40 years of helping food insecure residents in Essex County in my hometown of Montclair. In the last year they distributed over 24,000 bags of groceries to over 6,300 households. During the pandemic, they received a federal PPP loan which helped them serve the dramatic increase in clients who lost their income during the pandemic.
My Office is Here to Help
One of my favorite parts of being in Congress is being able to help NJ-11 constituents, and I was so glad to help Jeffry honor his father, a fellow Navy veteran. Watch our conversation to learn more, and if you need assistance with a federal agency contact my office at 973-526-5668.
