Friends,
We’re excited to announce that UFCW 3000 representing 50,000 healthcare, retail, grocery and cannabis workers and the MLK Labor Council which represents 150 unions across King county and 100,000 workers from a wide spectrum of the economy have endorsed this Saturday’s Rally and March to Defend Abortion Rights.
Please like & share the Facebook event page for this Saturday’s 1pm Rally at Cal Anderson Park!
They join a growing list of endorsers which includes Unite Here Local 8, the Seattle Education Union, UAW 4121, Councilmember Kshama Sawant, Real Change and over a dozen more organizations! To win back abortion and other reproductive rights, and to defend against further Right wing attacks we’ll need to build the broadest, multi-racial, multi-gendered mass movement we can.
Unfortunately, we cannot rely on the Democratic Party to defend abortion rights. Over and over Democrats have promised to act on abortion rights - and have failed to deliver even when they had majorities (2009 - 2010, 2020 -2022). However, a movement from below can hold their feet to the fire and force them to act. In the past, it was the massive women’s liberation movement that succeeded in winning and protecting Roe v Wade even under a right wing majority Supreme Court.
It was mass struggle that won abortion rights in the first place, it’ll be mass struggle that wins them back.
