** Provider Outreach Applications

ACEH recently received a grant from the Municipality of Anchorage through the Alcohol Tax to coordinate outreach services. As part of setting up that outreach service, ACEH is soliciting outreach team services.

We are providing the draft memorandum of agreement and an application in which we are asking to receive confirmation that the terms of the MOA are generally acceptable. ** Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission

Winterwear Needed!
The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission is going above and beyond to assist our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Their shelter space is regularly full to capacity and they are asking for donations of cold weather clothing items for those they serve. Work jackets, small to 2X outerwear, etc.

They ask that you consider leaving an encouraging note in the pocket of any donation you make so the new owner can find it.

Brother Francis Shelter is adding 40 beds, bringing the maximum capacity up to 120 guests, made possible by Alcohol Tax Funding. Brother Francis Shelter will not be expanding its capacity any farther than 120 guests and will not be returning to the pre-pandemic higher population. Fair Housing Act's Familial Status Protections Webinar and Fact Sheet Now Available

This webinar and fact sheet is designed to educate U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) program participants, including housing providers and housing consumers, on what qualifies as illegal discrimination because of familial status and who is protected under the Fair Housing Act. These resources are sponsored by HUD's Office of Fair Housing & Equal Opportunity (FHEO).

After participating in this training and viewing this fact sheet, housing providers will have a better understanding of what actions may violate the Fair Housing Act and how to proactively comply with familial status protections. These resources will also provide renters and homeowners with information about familial status discrimination in housing and how to file a fair housing complaint if they believe their rights have been violated. Both housing consumers and providers will learn clear actions they can take to prevent or address familial status violations.

** National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC)

Court Declares Civil and Criminal Punishments for Homelessness Are Cruel and Unusual

The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued an opinion ([link removed]) on September 29 upholding and clarifying the right of people experiencing homelessness to survive in the absence of housing and declaring that civil and criminal punishments for homelessness are cruel and unusual. The opinion in Johnson v. City of Grants Pass (formerly Blake v. City of Grants Pass ([link removed]) ) upholds a prohibition on the criminalization of the basic, life-sustaining activities of people experiencing homelessness, such as sleeping outside or in tents. The ruling supports and affirms rights for unhoused people ([link removed]) forced to sleep outside across the country, protecting them from unjust punishment.
