John,
As of last year, Nancy Pelosi is estimated to have a net worth of $46,000,000. She is the 15th wealthiest member in all of Congress. And just a few days ago, she oversaw the process that ultimately killed the ban on stock trading for all members of Congress. Funny how that works.
It must pay to invest in mega-corporations like Apple, Amazon, Meta, Tesla, and Microsoft – Nancy has no interest in providing for us when she can profit for herself.
Thanks to Justice Democrat Pramila Jayapal’s tireless work, the ban could’ve had the votes to pass. We need more progressives in office like her, who will do whatever it takes to fight for a better, fairer, and more transparent Congress.
This ban is a fair, straightforward, common-sense reform. It should be easy for Democratic leaders to give it their stamp of approval – because it’s overwhelmingly popular:
63% of ALL voters support banning members of Congress from trading stocks.
Nancy Pelosi, one of the richest people in Congress, and Steny Hoyer, who has been openly hostile toward the ban from the start, have gutted our last chance to vote on it before the elections.
Once again, corporate Democrats have proved that they care more about personal interest than representing everyday Americans who make up the 99%.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
