Dear Friend,
Republicans have a plan to fix our broken economy, restore the rule of law to our cities and our border, build a future for all Americans that is built on freedom, and make our government more accountable to you — the people of our great nation. We are calling our plan the Commitment to America.
This week, I want to highlight our plan to create a government that's more accountable. Our goal is to build a better government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people — just as our founders intended.
We have seen numerous examples of abuse of power from President Biden and Congressional Democrats to enact their own top-down form of government, effectively undercutting the will of the people. When Republicans retake the House, we plan to create a government that is accountable to the people who elected us.
That's why Republicans will move to rescind the 87,000 IRS agents funded by the Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats to audit middle-class Mississippians. We don't need to squeeze more money out of our citizens. Instead, we should be focused on reducing the tax burden on families who are struggling to buy groceries because of record-high inflation and a recession. In a new Republican majority, I plan to support legislation that will let you keep more of your hard-earned money because the government should be supporting prosperity, not taking it.
Democratic leadership in the House has virtually ignored President Biden's botched Afghanistan withdrawal, the worsening border crisis, and the growing crime in our states. Republicans will hold oversight hearings to uncover the truth about the Left's actions to politicize parts of the government that are meant to serve the best interests of the people. We will investigate the reckless withdrawal of U.S. and U.S.-allied troops from Afghanistan and the ensuing takeover of the Taliban; we will call Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to testify on how he and his department have lost operational control of the southwest border; and we will support the police.
We will also support measures to strengthen our election security. Even though 80 percent of Americans support voter ID requirements, Democrats have continued to threaten election integrity by undermining voter ID laws. Republicans will listen to the will of the American people and support voter ID as a means to create safer elections.
Finally, we will defend our divinely-inspired Constitution by protecting free speech and religious freedom, and safeguarding the Second Amendment. Almost 85 percent of adults believe it is a serious problem that some Americans don't feel comfortable expressing their true opinions because of fear of retaliation or harsh criticism. This "cancel culture" has been promoted almost exclusively by the far-left, and Republicans are prepared to defend the First Amendment by combatting censorship and promoting freedom of speech. We are also committed to defending the Second Amendment from the many attempts to restrict our Constitutional right to bear arms. Republicans are committed to preserving our Constitution, not reinterpreting it. In this way, we will preserve the ideals that have made our nation the best in the world — built on a government that is of the people, by the people, and for the people.
