Tom had a productive month in Washington D.C. passing historic legislation and standing up for human rights at home and abroad.
The CORRUPT ACT
Tom's bipartisan bill, the CORRUPT Act, passed the House! The bill holds Putin’s enablers accountable for supporting his human rights abuses and military aggression by imposing sanctions on Russian officials most critical to the regime. Tom met with Ukrainian Americans outside the Capitol to celebrate its passage.
Championing Reproductive Choice
In light of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade earlier this year and proposed legislation imposing a national abortion ban, Tom took to the House floor to speak on protecting reproductive care. Click here to watch his remarks.
Supporting Monumental Legislation
Tom was busy in September voting for legislation to improve mental health care, protect our communities, support veterans, and much more. Below are a few of the bills that passed the House this month.
Fighting for Global Human Rights
Along with the CORRUPT Act, Tom spoke up for human rights abuses around the world.
- Tom joined his colleagues on the House Foreign Affairs Committee in urging Secretary of State Antony Blinken to withhold funds from Egypt until clear progress on human rights is made. Read the letter here.
- The Biden Administration withheld $130 million in Foreign Military Financing (FMF) to Egypt, Tom and Egypt Human Rights Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) wrote a letter to the administration applauding this step.
